There was a sense of excitement in the air as our participants arrived at the Frankston foreshore for the opening of Australia’s Most Accessible Beach. For many, this wasn’t just a day out, it was an opportunity to experience the beach in a way that had previously felt out of reach.

As the event unfolded, it became clear just how special this moment was. Delivered by Frankston City Council and Accessible Beaches Australia, with support from the Frankston Social Inclusion Action Group, this three-month pilot program is the first of its kind in Australia. Running from Saturday 6 December 2025 to Saturday 28 February 2026, it has been thoughtfully designed to support people with disabilities and seniors to access the beach with ease, comfort and dignity.

Our participants took in the scene as they moved across the sand using beach matting, rested under cabanas with daybeds, and explored the shoreline with the support of beach wheelchairs and walkers. These features may seem simple, but the impact was powerful, they removed barriers and replaced them with confidence, independence and choice.

For many, the joy came from the small moments. Feeling the sand beneath their feet. Sitting comfortably by the water. Sharing laughs and conversations in a space designed with inclusion at its heart. It was clear that this initiative wasn’t just about access; it was about belonging.

Our participants were thrilled to be part of the opening, and many have already shared how much they are looking forward to returning throughout the summer. With bookings available on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10.30 am to 2.30 pm, the beach will continue to offer meaningful opportunities for recreation, connection and wellbeing.

This remarkable initiative was made possible through genuine community collaboration. MAAC Care would like to sincerely thank Frankston City Council, Accessible Beaches Australia, the Frankston Social Inclusion Action Group, the dedicated Beach Access teams, and Mayor Cr. Kris Bolam, and the generous volunteers and sponsors who helped bring this vision to life.

At MAAC Care, our NDIS support services are guided by the belief that everyone deserves the opportunity to participate fully in their community. Seeing our participants enjoy the beach with confidence and independence was a powerful reminder of why inclusive spaces matter.
We are deeply grateful to everyone involved in making Australia’s Most Accessible Beach a reality and look forward to many more summer days spent by the sea.
